We are having a performance issue with category filtering via the categories tab (the one on the map). We have over 2500 markers on the map. When you click on one of the checkboxes in the category tab, the browser window becomes unresponsive for several seconds. Often long enough to see the “Pages unresponsive” alert asking if we want to quit the long running script. The filtering will eventually succeed after one or more Waits, but that is not the kind of experience site visitors should have.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to give access to our site since it’s on an intranet. I’ve taken the following steps to mitigate the situation and it is still there:
- Fresh install of WordPress 4.9
- Fresh install of WP Google Map Plugin 4.0.7
- Only plugin activated is WP Google Map Plugin
- Active theme is Twenty Sixteen, without any customization
